What is SA 268 TP 430 Heat Exchanger Tube?

​​ASME SA268 TP430 stainless steel seamless heat exchanger tubes are ferritic stainless steel tubes that comply with the ASME SA268 specification (specifically the TP430 grade). Although categorized under ASME SA268, the SA 268 TP430 material is actually a martensitic stainless steel.

 

SA268 TP430 stainless steel tubes are among the most widely used hardenable ferritic stainless steels. With a chromium content of approximately 16% in its composition, it enhances corrosion resistance. These tubes also exhibit good heat resistance and oxidation resistance, maintaining favorable mechanical properties even at temperatures up to 816℃.​​

ASTM A268 Test Requirements

The tubes shall have a hardness number that will not exceed the prescribed Brinell and Rockwell hardness values, TP410, TP430 and TP439 max Rockwell hardness 90, Test report required certification conform to Specification A1016/A1016M.

Hydrostatic or nondestructive electric test.

ASTM A268 is the standard specification for seamless and welded ferritic and martensitic stainless steel pipe for general use. Grades TP410, TP405, TP420, TP430, TP430Ti, TP403, TP409, TP444, TP439, and TP446 are included. The pipe is manufactured by the seamless or welded process and reheated to 1200℃F (650℃) or higher, then cooled to meet the requirements of this specification. All pipe must be free of excessive mill scale for inspection. Small amounts of mill scale are not considered mill scale.
